Notes  Levi Master, "was born in Waterloo County, near New Dundee, Ontario, February 8th, 1841. His days of youth were spent with his father on the farm. When a mere lad he became animated with a thirst for learning. But the schools of his time were of an inferior kind and afforded none of the facilities now attainable in acquiring the rudiments of education. Schools then were kept open only a few months during the winter. Consequently he received at school nothing but the ordinary instruction which farmers' sons of that period usually received. The information thus received laid the foundation of a good education. By the time he attained the age of seventeen or eighteen years he passed his examination as a public school teacher. He followed teaching for a number of years. Later he entered the ministry of the M. E. Church. In 1869 he moved to Michigan where he continued to labor for his Master in the M. E. Church with great diligence and zeal. At present he is presiding elder of the church of his choice. His home is in Kalamazoo, Michigan. On January 1st, 1861, he was married to Maria Fried who was born January 24th, 1840. To them was born a family of five children, viz:"
