Notes  Henry Shantz, "the second youngest son of Christian and Hannah (Paul) Shantz, was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, November 3rd, 1804. In 1810 he came to Canada with his parents and spent his boyhood days on his father's farm on the west side of the Grand River at the Toll Bridge (Freeport). On September 23rd, 1828, he was married to Lydia, daughter of Peter and Anna (Zimmerman) Martin. She was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, August 2nd, 1810, and came to Canada when nine years old (1819). In 1829 they moved to North Dumfries Township, about two miles south of Roseville, where they resided until his death which took place October 4th, 1877. He was a minister of the Mennonite Church for a number of years and later on he was ordained bishop which position he filled with honor unto his end. He had a family of ten children, viz:"
