Notes  Joseph Shantz, "was born May 15th, 1830. On November 6th, 1855, he was married to Catharine Martin who was born November 29th, 1836. Soon after his marriage he moved on his father's farm, north-west of Waterloo, where he was engaged in farming and sawing. Here he resided until his death which took place October 2nd, 1886. To them was born a family of six children, viz:"
