Simon Cress, "the progenitor of this family was a native of Pennsylvania, U. S., where he was born about the year 1764. In 1806 he and his wife and family moved to Canada and located temporarily near Preston, Ontario. A few months later they moved to where they resided for some years. In 1819 he purchased the lot now forming the farms of the late Absalom Martin, Peter Cress, Levi Cress, and others near St. Jacobs, Ontario. Here the old progenitor resided until his death.
