Henry Adolph, "was born in the Canton of Berne, Switzerland. The date of his birth was not received. He was a miller by trade. He served as a soldier on the 'King's Life Guards' in France, and during the Louis Phillippe Rebellion of 1833 he fought on the street of Paris. After this rebellion he returned to Switzerland and acted as constable until he left for America. He, in company with his wife, came to America in 1835 or 1836, just before the McKenzie Rebellion, and settled in Waterloo County. His family consisted of ten children, ..." |
