Notes |
Abraham Souder, "was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, probably as early as 1745. Tradition has it that he was the son of old Jacob Souder, the millwright, who came to America and settled in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, as early as 1720. We find in Mr. James Y. Heckler's history of Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, that one Jacob Souder contracted with Gerhart Clemens to erect or build a mill for the said Clemens and to have it well made and give good satisfaction, for which the said Souder was to receive £33, one-half of which to be paid at completion of job and the balance six months thereafter. This contract was made March 26th, 1726. Mr. A. Souder was married to Catharine Fried. He followed farming for a number of years and when old he had his home with one of his children. To him and his wife was born quite a large family. The names of the children are as follows:" |
