Samuel Shelly, "was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania, in 1793. He was married to Polly Bechtel who was born in 1798 and died in 1871. She was a cousin to the Rev. Joseph Bechtel of this county (See No. 645). He followed farming. They resided on his father's old homestead in Butler County where he died in 1825.
