Notes  Nancy Rife, "the eldest in the family, was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania, and came to Canada with her parents in 1825. She was married twice, first to David Vance who was accidentally killed by falling while walking over the ice one morning. His head struck the solid ice with such a force as to cause instant death. Some time after his decease she was married to Joseph Diller. They resided on a beautiful farm about three miles north of Hespeler. With her first husband she had four children, namely: David, John, Edward, and Mary who was married to David Decker. Of the second union there were three children, namely: Joseph, Benjamin, and Sarah."
