John Huber, "The pioneer settler of this numerous family was a native of Switzerland from which place he emigrated at a very early date. After landing at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he wended his way to Lancaster County where he found many of his countrymen who had settled there a few years previously. Mr Huber finally settled in Warwick Township, same county. We find that one named John Huber, an early settler of the same county, is reputed as a son of the old pioneer. This John Huber was a prominent citizen in his time and was an iron-master. The following lines were on the sign in front of his furnace:
'John Huber, der erste Deutsche man
Der das Eisenwork vollfèuhren kann.'
As near as can be ascertained the pioneer, Peter Huber, of this country was a grandson of John Huber. We shall now follow our Canadian pioneer, Peter Huber." |
