Notes  John H. Shoemaker, "was born July 28th, 1843. In the beginning of the American war he went to Detroit where he enlisted in the Union army and went through the dreadful civil war of the United States from 1861 to 1865. He was first married to Mary Van Nordstrand, August 12th, 1862. She died May 13th, 1863. He was again married to Wilhelmine Anna Land, May 15th, 1877, at Dalton, Georgia, U.S. He now resides at Niles, Michigan and has a small family."
