Notes  Mathias Stauffer, "was born in 1719. No information in regard to his family. In coming from Philadelphia to Lancaster County, Mathias, the third son, was missed by the company. He strayed from the party while passing through a forest. It is supposed by some that he wended his way to the north east and finally settled either in Montgomery or Chester County while others think he was killed by Indians or died of starvation."
