Notes  Gregorius Detweiler, " Tradition has it that the ancestor of this family, was a native of Switzerland and came to America at a very early date and was one of the first settlers of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. According to the information received from the late Rudolph Detweiler† of Bloomingdale, Ontario, the old pioneer's name was I Gregorius* and his family consisted of five children, but he gave the names of only three, namely: II Joseph, II Hanes, and II Heinrich.‡"

We find the name Dettweiler mentioned in the early documents pertaining to Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

† This information he gave the writer on the day he was 75 years of age (Aug. 9th, 1872).

* So the writer was informed by Mrs. Philip Holm and also by Rudolph Detweiler.

‡ This information is given by the writer as he received it from various branches of the Detweiler family.
