He came to Canada when a young man and settled at Hespeler. After being here for several years he and his cousin, Jacob Witmer, went to Pennsylvania on a visit. After spending several months with their Pennsylvania friends, they returned to their Canadian home where Mr. M. Witmer was (soon after his return) married to Catherine Rittinger. She was born January 7th, 1812, and died May 5th, 1877. After their marriage they moved on the farm now possessed by John Clemens, near "Fisher's Mills", where they resided many years.
