Description	A photograph taken in 1876 of workers standing outside St. Jacobs Tannery which was owned and operated by Isaac E. Bowman, later in partnership with Henry Zinkan. As noted in "The early history of Jakobstettel," Isaac E. Bowman started the business in 1855 and employed five people by 1861. Two employees were engaged in tanning and the remaining three in shoemaking. In the photograph you can see a pile of hemlock bark used in the process of tanning, and in the hands of the workers tools used in their trade.
