Description
A red wool and cotton jacquard coverlet handwoven full width with fringe on three sides. In the flower and partrige pattern assigned to Daniel Knechtel of Roseville, Waterloo County, Ontario. It postdates 1875 when wide looms were aquired by local weavers.

Curatorial Comments
Such coverlets were given to young women at the time of their marriage in Waterloo County, both of Pennsylvania German and Continental German descent. This particular coverlet is not a marriage gift, but it was said by the owner, Chester Snyder, to have been used in the Joseph Schneider house.
