Description
It is a Neoclassical-Victorian bureau desk with three graduated drawers below and a drop front revealing the desk interior. A person would have to stand at this desk to use it. It is made of maple and cherry, presumably of lcoal origin, and has carved wooden pulls set on dramatic tiger-striped maple. The desk front has an inlaid eight-point compass star. The pillasters are skilfully reeded and the case has paneled ends. The escutcheons and drawer pulls inside the desk are brass.
Provenance
This desk was handed down through the Barbara (Schneider) and Abraham Hagey family. See also the Martyr's Mirror and the Family Register for Jacob E. and Joseph E. Schneider (JSH 980.16.9) found inside the book.
