Category Documents Year Early: 1891 - Late: 1931 Description A group of ledgers and order books of the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son Co., later known as the Dominion Button Manufacturers. 1. A General Business ledger with handwritten entries in red and blue/black ink which record and summarize various business activities of the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son Co./Dominion Button Manufacturers from 1891 to 1931. It has marbelized hard covers with leather spine and corners. 2. A hardcover ledger from the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son Co. Ltd. (Shantz Button Company), called Dominion Button Manufacturers Ltd. after 1912. A sticker on the front of the ledger is handwritten with "Shareholders/Assets and Liabilities / From 1892." The ledger actually covers the years 1891 to 1920. It contains handwritten entries. (1971.032.004) 3. A ledger with details of holdings, with values, of the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son Co./Dominion Button Manufacturers, 1891 to 1925. (The company's name changed in 1912.) It has hard covers with marbelized paper, leather spine and corners. A sticker on the front cover with handwriting in ink reads: Details of Inventories / Machinery Plant and Stock. (1971.032.005) 4. A red cloth soft-covered book whose pages have alphabetical page tabs. Contains an index of business names. Associated with the Jacob Y. Schantz & Son & Co. button factory, Berlin, Ontario. Undated. Circa 1900. (1971.032.006) 5. Title "Pearl & Horn Inventory B(ook)" is handwritten on a label stuck to the front cover along with dates: 11/20/96 to 4/30/01. The book contains handwritten records of button factory stock, 1896 to 1901. (1972.050.001) 6. A lined ledger with black cloth covers and maroon leather spine and corners. Stamped on the spine: JOURNAL. A label stuck to the front cover reads "Pearl & Horn Inventory Book," with dates: 4/30/02 to 4/30/09. It is from the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son Co. Ltd. button factory. There is also a set of loose pages removed from a ledger detailing employee wages from 1910 to 1915. It is from the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son Co., renamed Dominion Button Manufacturers in 1912. These loose sheets were originally inserted in the Pearl & Horn Inventory Book (Accession number 1972.050.001B). 7. A hardcover ledger or journal with handwritten entries listing prices of buttons. The ledger covers the years 1890 to 1900. It is from the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son button factory, Berlin, Ont. (1972.050.002) 8. A small maroon leather notebook with lined pages listing orders, with values, from 1892 to 1908. It is from the Jacob Y. Shantz & Son Company and appears to be a companion to 1962.016.006 (Box 15), an order book. 9. A lined notebook covering the years 1895 to 1905, recording orders of Detweiler (most pages relate to him), Jones and Boehmer. Associated with the Jacob Y.
