Description
A small silver snuffbox set on an oval varnished wood plaque. There is a round depression on the plaque, lined with blue velvet, with a wedge-shaped support on which the box is placed. The box is very ornately engraved, and on the top is the following inscription: "Presented to J. B. Bowman Esq're, first Reeve of the township of Waterloo, as a mark of approbation for his long and upright course of Public Service. 1851." Stamped inside the lid of the box are three marks: a female profile, the letters ES, and a gothic-style Y. Stamped inside the bottom of the box are an anchor, "ES," and another symbol which may be a J. The plaque has a green felt base, and a silver plate in front of the box. The plate reads "Presented to the Waterloo County Historical Society by the family of Leander Bowman, direct descendants of jonathan B. Bowman." At the bottom corner of the plate, it is marked "Birks Sterling."
