Description
Letter is about the assassination of President Lincoln. It on blue paper and is glued to a corner of the front sheet of four lined sheets of paper that have been tied in the corner with narrow pink ribbon. The letter is handwritten in black ink "Berlin CW, 21st April, 1865/ Sir,/ I have been directed by a public meeting of the Inhabitants of the Towns of Berllin and Waterloo, held at the Court House, Berlin, on Wednesday, the 19th inst. to transmit through you to His Excellency, the Governor General, copies of Resolutions paper at same meeting, giving expressions of the symnpathe felt for the people of the United States in the great calamity that as befallen them in the deather of their late President ......./Israel D. Bowman/ Secy/ Hon. Wm. McDougall/ Provincial Leg./ Quebec". The resolutions are handwritten in black ink on the lined sheets. A newspaper clipping the the assassination has been attached to the sheets. On the back of the back sheet is "COPY OF RESOLUTIONS .../ OF/ SYMPATHY AND CONDOLENCE - PAPER AT A PUBLIC MEETING OF CITIZENS OF BERLIN AND WATERLOO - AT MEETING HELD AT COURT HOUSE, BERLIN ON 19th APRILAM, 1865/ ON THE DEATH OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN/ LATE/ PRESIDENT OF U.S.". There is a double black line around the sheet on the back.
