Description	White linen show towel has pink and blue crosstitch embroidery with eight pointed stars, the Distelfink on branch, stylized carnations, peacocks and tulip trees motif brought from Europe by German speaking settlers (according to the original catalogue record) and "1840". The alphabet has been embroidered across the other end. The top edge has been folded down with pink and blue crosstitch embroidered letter "BARBARA BAUMAN". There is fringe and a cotton tape loop at each corner. The other end has a fringe with a row of pink and blue crosstitch above.

Curatorial Comments	Primarily a Mennonite tradition, show towels were rarely found outside areas of Canada that were not settled by people of this religion. Versions of this art form may be found in Hutterite settlements. Embroidered show towels made by women of all ages flourished only in Waterloo County and around Markham. Lincoln County was less frequent. It is relatively unknown outside the Pennsylvania-Dutch folk culture.
