There are a cup and saucer (1982.015.015), a sugar bowl (1982.015.021), a saucer (1982.015.009), two plates (1982.015.012 and .013) and a soup bowl (1982.015.020). The pieces are marked as follows: The cup and saucer are marked "Walmer, E.H. [Eardly & Hammerly] -- 1862-6, Staffordshire, England." The sugar bowl is marked "Ironstone, Chusan (?), A. Clementson [probably one of the Clementson Bros. of Phoenix Works in Staffordshire, 1839-64]. One plate is marked "Pearl Stoneware PW & Co. {Podmore Walker & Co., 1834-59], Staffordshire." The second plate is marked "Manilla PW & Co., Ironstone." There is also a small flower mark on this plate, probably the mark of James Bennett of East Liverpool, Ohio & Birmingham, and Pennsylvania. The soup bowl is marked "Oregon, Chinge (?) Porcelina, T.J. Mayer, Longport."
Provenance
T.J. Mayer was a potter of Brook St., Longport, Staffordshire from 1836-38. His wares were exported to the United States, so American devices may appear on the marks.
