Description	A set of four hoop-back Windsor chairs from Louisa Snyder's home in Kitchener, Ontario. Signed "J. Troxel" under the seat of two chairs. The hoop-back Windsor chair has a back formed by a continuous steam-bent bow that is wedged into the seat. They have loops that are flat in cross-section, tapered spindles, raked legs and box stretchers. Most Ontario, (Canada) hoop-back Windsor chairs have two board seats. These chairs are 1860s to 1880s, rivals of the 18th century American loop-back Windsor. They were made in Ontario furniture factories. A few were handmade.
Provenance	Set of four hoop-back Windsor's from Louisa Snyder's home (m. 1868) - two signed "J. Troxel" under seat. First home south of Conestoga - Kitchener (Queen Street east side of Queen near Courtland). First in Kitchener to have central hot water heating 1870s(?). Also had year-round green house heated this way - interested in gardening. Moved to Centreville, double house (doddy type house) with Hubert Sherk (son-in-law and Lydia, daughter). The chairs were passed to Olive Leolia (youngest daughter of Lydia & Hubert) she married Isaac Huber Erb 1918 and moved to Toronto they were passed to Gordon (her son) in 1950s.
