Description
A single rectangular panel of white cotton with wool embroidery. The top and bottom has applied knotted fringes of concentric semicircles with tufts. The left side is hemmed. Decorative motifs include: (top) the date "1852" within a blue circle with tulip motifs, flanked on either side by 8-point (yellow and pink) stars. Immediately below the artist's name "Mary Snyder". (Middle) - two blue potted plants (trees?) with numerous perched birds found on lower design. Plants flanked on either side by blue paired roosters, perched birds and flowers. A series of horizontally connected spirals 1/4 of the way from bottom. Bottom potted floral motifs with grey mounted (unarmed) soldiers on either side. All embroidered motifs are in chain-stitch. Name and date are cross-stitched. Top and bottom edges of 5 intersecting semi-circles of alternating yellow and pink.
