Description	A rare Froschauer Bible printed in Zurich, Switzerland in 1560 records eight generations of Schneiders beginning with Hannes Schneider (born 1534). The Bible contains a genealogical record of the Hannes Schneider family.
Provenance	The Froschauer Bible was bought by Hannes Schneider in 1564, seven years before he married Catherine Haus. It was brought to America by John Schneider who was born in 1697. It came to Canada with three of his grandsons – Jacob, Christian, and Joseph – who immigrated to Waterloo County in 1806-07. The Schneider information in the Bible was translated by Ezra Eby for his Biographical History first published in 1895.

Curatorial Comments	The publisher, Christoph Froschauer, began printing Bibles in 1524. They became popular because of their clear type, popular language and pictoral decoration. This version was that prepared by Zwingli and his aides between 1524 and 1529 on the basis of Luther’s work. It differed from Luther mainly in word order and vocalulary since the German spoken in Zurich differed from that of Luther’s translation. [taken from article by Ian H. Schiedel]
